How to Use the Tag Option
Payment gateway per product
Payment gateway per product
The Tag option in the Payment Gateway per Product plugin allows you to control which payment methods are available during checkout based on product tags.
This gives you a powerful and flexible way to manage payment gateways across multiple products — without needing complex rules or custom code.
Using tags helps you:
Apply payment rules to multiple products at once
Quickly manage large product catalogs
Create targeted checkout experiences
Simplify store management
For example, you can assign a specific payment gateway to all products tagged as “Digital”, “Subscription”, or “High Risk”.
Once enabled, the plugin checks the tags assigned to the product and determines which payment gateways should be available at checkout.
If a product has a matching tag configuration → the selected payment gateways will be shown
If no match is found → the default WooCommerce payment gateways will be used
Go to your WordPress Dashboard
Navigate to: WooCommerce → Settings → Payment Gateways (or plugin settings)
Locate the Tag option
Enable the option by checking the “Enable” checkbox
Save your settings
After enabling the Tag option:
Open the payment gateway you want to configure
Find the Tag settings section
Choose whether to:
Include tags → only products with these tags will use this gateway
Exclude tags → products with these tags will NOT use this gateway
Select one or multiple tags
Save your configuration
Let’s say you only want to allow PayPal for digital products:
Assign the tag “Digital” to your products
Configure PayPal to include the “Digital” tag
✅ Result: Only PayPal will be available at checkout for those products.
If no payment gateway matches the selected tag configuration:
👉 The plugin will automatically fall back to your default WooCommerce payment gateways
This ensures that your checkout process always remains functional and uninterrupted.
Use clear and consistent tag names
Avoid overlapping include/exclude rules across multiple gateways
Test your checkout after making changes
Combine tag rules with product or category rules for advanced setups
