Configuring Fallback Behavior

Fallback behavior controls what WooCommerce shows at checkout when no payment gateway rule matches the products in a customer's cart. Configuring this correctly prevents customers from getting stuck with an empty payment section.

Fallback options

The Flexible Fallback feature is available in the Premium version. The free version always falls back to the default WooCommerce gateways.

With Premium you can choose between two behaviors:

1. Show default WooCommerce gateways — when no rule matches, display the gateways configured under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments as if the plugin weren't active. This is the safest option and the default.
2. Show no payment methods — when no rule matches, the payment section is left empty and the customer cannot complete checkout. Use this only if an unmatched product should truly be un-purchasable until you assign an explicit rule.

Where to configure fallback

1. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payment Gateways Per Product (or wherever the plugin settings panel is located in your WP admin).
2. Find the Fallback Behavior section.
3. Choose your preferred option and save.

When does fallback apply?

Fallback kicks in when:

• A product in the cart has no product-level, category-level, or tag-level rule assigned.
• The intersection of all applicable rules results in zero matching gateways.

Recommendation

Start with Show default WooCommerce gateways while you are still rolling out your rules. Once every product, category, or tag is covered, you can switch to Show no payment methods if a stricter policy is needed.
