Shipping Gateway per product for WooCommerce

🏷️ Using Tags in the Shipping Gateway Plugin (Dreamfox Media)

The Shipping Gateway Per Product for WooCommerce plugin by Dreamfox Media also allows you to control shipping methods based on product tags.

Tags give you even more flexibility than categories, especially when you want to group products across different categories without changing your structure.

⚙️ Enabling Tag-Based Shipping

Before tag rules will work, you must enable the feature.

👉 Important: Make sure to check the “Enable section” checkbox.

If this is not enabled, all tag-based logic will be ignored (and you’ll be debugging for nothing… been there 😄).

🧠 How It Works

For each shipping gateway (method), you can configure:

  • ✅ Include Tags

  • ❌ Exclude Tags

This determines when a shipping method is shown during checkout.

✅ Include Tags

When you add tags to Include Tags:

  • The shipping method will ONLY be available if products in the cart have those tags.

  • If none of the products match → the method will NOT be shown.

Example:

  • Include: lightweight

  • Result: Shipping method only appears for products tagged as lightweight.

❌ Exclude Tags

When you add tags to Exclude Tags:

  • The shipping method will be hidden if any product in the cart has those tags.

Example:

  • Exclude: fragile

  • Result: Shipping method will NOT appear if a fragile product is in the cart.

🔄 Combine Include & Exclude

You can combine both:

  • Include = where the method is allowed

  • Exclude = where the method is blocked

Important behavior:

  • Exclude rules override include rules if there is a conflict.

📍 Per Shipping Gateway Configuration

Each shipping method can have its own tag rules.

Example setup:

  • Free Shipping → only for lightweight

  • Express Shipping → exclude fragile

  • Local Pickup → only for store-pickup tag

🚀 Practical Use Cases

  • Mark products with free-shipping tag to quickly enable free shipping

  • Use oversized tag to disable certain carriers

  • Apply pickup-only tag for in-store collection items

  • Use tags to control shipping across multiple categories

⚠️ Common Mistake

If your configuration doesn’t work:

👉 Check if “Enable section” is enabled

No toggle = no effect.

💡 Pro Tip

Tags are perfect when:

  • Products belong to multiple categories

  • You want quick control without restructuring your catalog

  • You need marketing-driven shipping logic (e.g. promotions)
